My Thoughts on the #NoMakeupSelfie
I am all for the love yourself movement, but what I am not for is the vapid, on the surface, BS that comes along with it. Exhibit A: The No Makeup Selfie trend.
Posting a #nomakeupselfie or joining some sort of #nomakeupchallenge doesn't count. Stop lying to yourself. You know you discreetly have pore minimizer, concealer and a light swoosh of bronzer on your face, not to mention the IG filter you undoubtedly chose (but if I only used 20% Clarendon filter, that doesn't actually count as a full edit, right).
The sheer pretension of hashtagging a post #nomakeupselfie makes me barf, not because of the picture itself, but because of the audacity of the caption, like you're expecting some sort of roaring applause. Psh. Even if you really did post a pic of your face without any makeup or edits, bitch YOU WERE BORN THIS WAY! So what, now that you're grown, you want some sort of applause for it like you're some sort of pioneer?! Bitch keep walkin!
No makeup faces happen every morning as people wake up all around the world, it's not some sort of accomplishment to celebrate. WHOOP DEE DOO BASIL! Let's face it, you're basic.
If you don't wear makeup, good for you. If you do wear makeup, good for you. My problem lies not with the #nomakeup trend but with the trend to seek social attention and acceptance for something so trivial.
Love yourself but don't be vain about it.
